About Yardville Heights Elementary School
Yardville Heights Elementary School has created an academic learning environment for children to reach their intellectual, social, and creative potential. The school houses students from kindergarten to grade five. In addition to the regular education classrooms, the school offers special education classes including self-contained and resource room. Resource teachers provide in-class support and small group instruction according to the needs of each child.
All students receive technology instruction daily which starts in kindergarten. The students have access to various computer-based programs to enhance their technology skills. Every classroom in the building has student computers available for student use and a ladybug and SMART board. Teachers use various mediums of technology for instructional classes. All students receive instruction from special area teachers in art, music, library, physical education and health. In addition, inquiry-based, hands-on science instruction occurs in the regular classroom setting. The student friendly library is well stocked with a genre of literature options for students to engage in reading and computers are available for students to use technology to research favorite authors and books. Students receive regular, hands-on practice with one to one devices to increase their exposure to educational technologies and 21st Century Learning skills.
The highly qualified and competent staff of Yardville Heights consistently provides quality instruction and continually expands their repertoire of educational skills by participating in professional development opportunities. The staff at Yardville Heights participate research-based Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The PLC’s have been established to facilitate ongoing articulation which receives full support from the principal. As result, best practices and proven strategies are integrated into the classroom. Instruction at the elementary level in the district has been refined. Alignment of our philosophy, NJ student learning standards, instructional materials, and assessment instruments has produced a more relevant educational program. These improvements have enabled and enhanced the level of student achievement.
A variety of Character Education assembly programs and special event days are offered for our children to support our efforts to reinforce positive character and social skills. All students also receive Character Education instruction from the guidance counselor as an additional program to help them learn the social skills needed to be successful in a school. Parental and community participation is encouraged in activities such as Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day and American Education Week. Parent Involved in Education (P.I.E) nights invite parents and students to participate in hands-on curriculum focused activities in the evening.
Our successful student performance is a result of a strong home to school connection. Parents engage in numerous school activities and events that reinforce educational goals, promote achievement, and motivate all learners. As partners in the educational process, parent volunteers continue to make valuable contributions of time and resources toward the implementation of our school level plan. PTA involvement and support provide an additional basis for our success. Parents are encouraged to reaffirm their commitment to their child’s education and to take an active role in the process. The PTA and parent volunteers sponsor book fairs, seasonal celebrations, an annual Holiday Shop, family activity nights, and numerous fundraising events that provide funds for class trips, special holiday celebrations, and other school improvement projects to support student achievement.
